PADI Womens Day 2019

August 14, 2019 By Baki Divers Leave a Comment

Here at Baki Divers, we believe that mermaids do in fact exist, so what better way to lure them out of their mysterious hiding spots, than to organise a PADI Womens Dive Day!

On July 20, 2019 the team at Baki Divers hosted the fifth annual event celebrating women diving.  And what a day of fun it was! Of course the day wasn’t just about women, but also about men supporting the PADI women, and turning up in their best attire…dresses! We were humbled by the support of the Marine Conservation Project (MCP) staff who joined us and of course dressed for the occasion. Actually, we thought they (the mermen that is) stole the lime light for sure!

With an early morning start, coffee in hand, we all introduced ourselves and admired the dress code of the boys… Equipment was set up, the vibes were positive and spirits were high, laughter could be heard for miles!  Together with the MCP, our first dive was aimed at an ocean clean up.  We collected a mere 2kg of trash and a illegal fish trap on the house reef.  Not bad hey?

Surface intervals at Baki Divers are always something to look forward to, especially if it means you can relax by the pool while waiting for lunch to be served.

The second dive after lunch was done on the house reef of Baki Divers, teeming with marine life, and sleeping turtles.  We sure are lucky to have that on our doorstep.  The big giant frog fish was chilling in its usual place, mushroom pipe fish was found in the coral, and not to mention the schooling fish and gigantic groupers on the reef.

The day was ended with cocktails by the pool, which was a first for us.  Our chef and kitchen staff had much fun learning how to prepare these delicious drinks, and it was enjoyed by all.  Mojito’s, strawberry daiquiris and espresso martinis all round!

In summary: this day was so much more than just celebrating women diving.  It was about taking care of our oceans, networking with the Marine Conservation Group, introducing new local female dive masters to the team, building friendships, and appreciating the joy we all get to share of blowing bubbles and admiring what nature has provided us with….healthy coral reefs and marine life.
